IR-R/C Fun Time

Sorry I haven't posted in a while, but I've been busy with life a bit. Given that, I decided on a double post today.

Propel Toys IR controlled 3 channel indoor helicopter. Paid about $3 for it. I've had quite a bit of fun with it. Although my girlfriend almost went "King Kong" style on it. I guess I shouldn't fly it too close to her head.

Air Hogs R/C Airplane. I've only flown it a few times while they weather was still nice before winter. Damn thing is quick as anything. I've crashed about 8 times and only broke the tip on the place. I added some tape to the tip to try and prevent more of it from getting lost. My cost, $3.50,. Well worth it in my opinion.

Small Tool Kit

I picked up this small tool kit about 3 months ago. Ever since then, I've had it in my back pocket. I originally got this kit because I wanted something to go into my backpack in case I needed to fix anything, but I ended up keeping it in my pocket. It's allowed me to do some minor repairs on a lot of things. From Cell Phones to Zippo Lighters, even opened a door I locked myself out of. The case measures about 3"x4.5"x0.75". It not too big, but big enough to know you still have it. Even the picks were included. The store I got this at, generally doesn't check inside merchandise to make sure everything is there, let alone the legality of some items. Cost, about $3.75. Not bad for a useful little kit.

Citizens Band Radio /w Weather Channels

I picked this Radio Shack TRC-234 CB Radio for a good price. I mainly wanted it for the Weather Bands. It's in great condition after a quick fix. I was able to hear quite well on it. However, I just couldn't transmit anything. But still, you don't need to speak on the Weather Band. One day, I had a bit of time, and pulled it apart. There was just one loose wire on the mic. I fixed it up, put it back together, and attempted to transmit. I was picked up about 1.5-2 miles from my current position. Reply was that I was "breaking the needle" which I found out, for the most part, it means a Strong signal. That was better then even the 15-mile range Cobra hand held Walkie-Talkies that I had. It's rated for a 5-watt transmission strength. Then antenna can be removed for transport. Only downside is that it uses 9-AA batteries. However, power drain isn't too bad. I've used it for maybe a total of 15-20 hours on the first set of batteries I put in there, and only now has the transmission power dropped to 3-watts. My cost, $5. That's it. And it still works like almost brand-new.

Plain Black Backpack

Time for something simple. It's just a plain black backpack. I can put quite a lot without much stress. I've gotten it as heavy as 60 lbs. The straps showed some signs of wear, but c'mon. This large bag, that is still in faithful service, only cost me $2. That's all. It's taken such a beating over the past couple years, but it still does it's job well.

Verbot

A good "old school" post today. Some of us may know what this is, others, not so much. For those who don't, it's a voice controlled robot from the 80's. Sadly, the store I got this from has a habit of not pricing the remotes with the toys, so you often have to search around for it, if they even have one around. I was lucky enough to find the remote on the shelf a few feet away from this one.It was $4 for the robot, and $1.50 for the remote. Overall $5.50. Not bad for a robot to kill time with. The voice control is a bit sketchy, but for it to work at all for being a little older then myself, is a good deal.

Suit and Pant Combo

I know it a little hard to see it, I'll have to post a better pic when I can. It's a plain single breast black suit. I know it's not much, but every guy needs at least good suit. My last suit didn't fit right, so I got another. I browsed the racks and found this. I tried it on and it fit extremely well for being "off-the-rack". Only problem was the lining was starting to slip the hem or whatever. Nothing a quick stitch couldn't fix. I found the perfect pair of pants for it on another rack. Total price for the two items? $9. Not bad for a Large sized suit. I even picked up a black tie for $1 to finish it off.

EyeClops Night Vision Infrared Stealth Goggles

I picked these up for either $3.50 or $4.50. I can't remember which. They work, you can see about 50 feet in COMPLETE darkness, and the only problem was that I needed to do a quick fix to the top head strap. The connection was a bit looser then I liked so I removed the mounting pin and replaced it with one of my own. Works and fits great now. Battery drain isn't that bad. 20 to 30 hours on 6 AA batteries is worth it.

Black "Pleather" Jacket

I got this black "pleather" jacket for $5. It's not much, but it's waterproof and covers a bit. It ends just above me knees. It's good for the rain and the wind. It's not real leather, it's an imitation that resembles it. It's lightweight and I can easily roll it up for easy transport. Not really much more to say about it. Still, a good deal.

OD Green 5.11 Tactical Vest

A 5.11 OD Green Tactical Vest with Backup Belt System. A link to their site HERE. My price, 5$.

The zipper skips a bit, but it works quite well overall.. I've had it for nearly 2 years. And I've used it, ALOT. It has enough pockets for nearly everything I would need from a day to day basis. My vest even includes an NRA logo above the right breast pocket.

AIPTEK DV 5900 Camera

I was in the market for a new camera so I check the Thrift Store. I found this little camera for $3.50. I know it's not much, but it has a preview/viewfinder screen, video/audio recording, voice recording, A/V out, and webcam. It's not much, but it works quite well. Video is smooth, but the zoom is lacking a bit, though it's unnecessary for me anyway. The sound comes through quite nicely, so I'm not worried about that. I've dropped it a few times from a moderate height (about head height/just over 5') and the only thing that happen was the battery door doesn't quite latch right anymore. Nothing that a small piece of tape cant fix. The pictures I take of items here are from this camera. Till next time.

Thrift Store Discoveries

Every so often, I visit the thrift store to see what I can find. Sometimes I find nothing of interest. Other times I find things that can blow my mind. I mainly look around for random toys of days gone by, other times, just what I think is cool. And if you want, leave comments on some of them if you wish to purchase. If you do decide that, PayPal only.
